I lived in Yorkletts from 1953 until late sixties. I used to go to Bill Shine's to get paraffin, which he kept out the back. While he was filling my can his old mother would lift the lid on one of the many sweet jars and give me a sweet. If she heard Bill returning she would hurriedly replace the lid so that he didn't know what she had done. I also used to love his ice cream. I remember that he used to cycle to ...see more
I'm so pleased to see the picture of the post office in Yorkletts. I spent several childhood holidays with my Nan and Gran at Yorkletts, and struggle to recall anything but vague memories of the place. But I do remember walking down to the shop for some 'bits' with Nan's wicker basket on wheels. It's wonderful that the photo confirms that memory.
Hi, I would love to hear from anyone that may have memories of Yorkletts in the late 1960s. I used to spend a lot of time in the village, spending all my school hols with my gran who lived in a bungalow on the straight, towards Dargate, called Red Roses.
